I dont get it

Id never heard of the original game but the description sounded pretty cool... but I dont like this game. Just didnt captivate me and I still dont know what some of the buttons do because instructions are lousy. Needless to say, I havent spent much time on this game so its not a completely fair review, but from what Ive seen so far, I dont want to play again

Great adaptation of a classic

Ive only just scratched the surface of this game but there is a lot to it. It is an interesting combo of vintage video game graphics, combined with real satellite maps. Definitely different.

Great game, graphics not so good.

The concept behind Port Of Call is simple but great. In Ports Of Call youre the owner of a shipping company and you have to make as much profit as you can. You do that by transporting stuff for other firms, but it isnt as simple as it sounds, because tugs are expensive and its much cheaper to steer out of the port yourself, but than you also take the risk of wrecking your ship. When your on the see also all kind of thinks can happen. Your ship can be attack by pirates and sometimes there appears a ship on the radar and you have to steer around it. That is quite difficult. You have to take all kind of decisions. I really enjoyed playing Port Of Call and the ship simulation is also very much fun. When I first started it wasnt simple to understand, but with a bit of trying and some logic I started to understand the idea and now Im making very much profit. The google maps mode (so you can see your ships on the satellite) looks good and is fun to watch. Everything is perfect, except one thing and thats a big downside of the game: the interface. You see that the game is ported from the computer: the buttons are small, sometimes too small to touch good and the graphics are a bit outdated. Youve got the options to zoom out your screen and have bigger buttons next to the main screen, but that off course isnt an elegant solution. If this game should be updated with a new interface especially made for the iPhone this game should be much better. Now its still great and I recommend it to people that like playing management game and doesnt matter how a game looks. I think this is a great game and I give it 4/5 stars, just because its very much fun to play.

Really Great, But Not For Everyone

This game has loads of content. Its an amazing combination of simulation and other game elements, and it makes for a compelling experience. However, it isnt great for pick up and play content. To really experience everything the game has to offer, youll have to sit down with it for awhile. You might want to try the Lite first though, because its a pretty hefty game to just start up.

Cargo, Shipping game !

Not my cup of tea, and neither does it interest me as Im not a fond lover of such games Nevertheless, it might appeal to any shipping / cargo lovers out there.. And therere needs to improve on the graphics and UI hopefully in the near future ;)

Great Sim

This is a very deep and engaging game that offers a unique experience. Its apparently a port from the Amiga platform which I had never played. The only warning for people is that its definitely not a "pick-up and play" in the grocery line kind of game. It takes some time to learn and time to play which I dont happen to have a problem with (being a seasoned PC gamer) but some may find it intimidating. The devs seem to be very active with this app constantly updating and taking feedback which is always great to see. Overall a great effort sure to please deep strategy fans.

Good sim game

I got this game because I like sims and I wanted to see the google maps integration. The map integration shows up at the beginning of the game and you can see all the ports of call. Its pretty cool that you can see where they are and what they really look like. For the game itself, the graphics are not as polished as some other titles, but thats not what this game is about. Working your ships and building your wealth is. I enjoyed piloting the ship into the different harbors. Also, some of the other challenges were fun too. Eg, you have to avoid collisions with other ships using radar, etc. I kept thinking Im going to stop playing but kept going one more round. Worth a try.

Bad port

A nasty port of a game that was vaguely good decades ago. Please stop flogging the same dead horse guys, you have been selling the game for years with minimal enhancements. Awful - let it die or rewrite it for your target platform. This is an iPhone not an 8 bit EGA 8088. ...and it is astonishing the way my bad review was immediately countered with a positive position that advertised all their other products! Outstanding!

Exactly as I remember it!

I remember playing this game on my Amiga as a child. This app is exactly the same, and I love it! Its a fun game, but very involved. If you are looking for instant gratification, this is not the game for you. Not sure why people are complaining about the graphics, the interface looks exactly as it did in the 80s. I think that was the point of releasing this game. Its something that feeds the nostalgia for those of us that remember the game how it used to be. If you need flashy graphics, dont have time to figure out the game, and get bored quickly, this game is not for you. If you miss the good ol days of loading 3 floppy disks to play 1 game, and listening to the grinding sound of the Amiga loading, youll love it. Its the same great game it always was.

Loved it in 1988... Doesnt hold up

I love economic / tycoon games. I played this a lot on my Amiga. But... Its a straight up port of the 1988 game code -- warts and all. The interface is awful. For example, everywhere are yes/no or multiple choice options that you need to click and THEN hit another OK button to accept. The gameplay is way too unforgiving. On the easiest difficulty level you cant break even -- then they hit you with multiple hundred thousands in thefts. I like the art, though. Jim Sachs style is simple and endearing. Dont bother buying this cynical moneygrab.

Not a bad game but...

there are a few overwhelming amounts that turn me off on this one such as the "Pirates", the "thiefs" from the company funds and the lack of ships, it dont matter if you buy it or not the ships are still the same, what happen to the different kinds that you could use like in the 1986 version? they say if you visit your office more that the stealing wont happen and thats not true, if any thing it seems like it happens more after you visit the office, also if the governments of todays world were as good at finding contraband as the governments in this game there wouldnt be any problems in the world, I am sorry but todays african coast pirates dont make that many successful raids on a ship that size without a fight or a government coming down on them, if your gonna make a realistic game as listed on your website by adding contraband, people stealing from your funds and bogus pirates that rob you better then real ones do then you better start by adding the punishment that comes along with it such as government interaction embezzlement investigation and so on,

Awful / Broke

Paid $1.99 in app store for this game and cant even play because there is no keyboard that pops up when it comes time to fill in the registration form and enter a name and company name. Would appreciate a refund at the very least.
