I played this game on PC, back when I had a 25 MHz Tandy. I put in many, many hours, and this feels exactly the same. I cant say enough good things about it.

I am a very open minded person, but this game just was terrible. For example, i made 10m from shipping, and then i took one of those risk deals with a time limit. I got there and my ship was detained for 60 days due to an epidemic. i lost 4m. thinking it was a fluke, i tried another. the samething happened.. 5times in a row with 2 different ships this happened. and the entire time i was losing 200k-1.2m every week becasue someone stole it. Now i went from 10m to being in debt because of a bunch of garbage. I made a new profile, went through all that again, and got to 10m. then the exact same stuff happened. I have quit playing this and i dont recommend this game at all. It is absolutely terrible.
But it really isnt that hard to figure out, despite what people say. Just find a good trading route and stick with it! There are instructions though.
This is the best clasic game in the app store. it is a really fun trading game. you will play it for days without it getting boring. The perfect app
I was a bit skeptical at first, but after playing the game have become addicted!! Its somewhat realistic to the shipping world (I work for a shipping company), which is probably why I enjoy it. I could see why someone who is not familiar with the shipping industry could have trouble, but if a dumb ex-sailor can figure it out, keep at it!
You think they could have tried harder..... All I got to say...
Even on the easyist setting it is too hard for it own good. Other than that it is one if the best games that I have I played almost non stop for 5 hours
The game is too hard
Its taken me a while to write this review as I wanted to give the game a fair run. And to be fair, the underlying game is good and has sufficient depth to keep you going. But, and its a big but, the graphics are terrible. For an iphone game to compete, graphics are important. Were not in the 90s anymore, and while this game may have its roots there, the developers needs to realise they are just that, roots, and not the substance of the app. There is no room for nostalgia in this cut throat arena. That said, the actual game is absorbing. With control over ships in your fleet, cargo, destinations and budget, there is a lot to keep you involved and if you need more, there is the actual steering of the ship to manage as well. So, will I continue to play it? Yes but truth be told, Im not sure for how long. It could be such a good game but the experience is so poor. With other high quality games now appearing at similar prices, this one fails, badly, in the main raison detre for iphone gaming.
Awesome job guys! This game brings back a lot of memories from my Amiga 500 gaming days! It has the exact same look, feel and sounds as the original classic. Please dont change a thing! For those critics who cant appreciate the beauty of a classic, please also make available on the iPhone a version of your more updated PoC Sim3d or PoC XXL. Thanks for taking the time to make this available on the iPhone.
Dont buy this app. I bought it because I thought it looked kind of interesting, but unless you are really interested in the boating industry, dont buy this. Plus, the text is really small an hard to read, and the graphics are really bad...
Ports of Call 1.3 is a wonderful and deep maritime simulation game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. I found myself spending hours and hours making runs across the globe with multiple ships. The game has two modes, one with ship control and one without. Both the windowed and full screen interfaces are functional, and button presses are responsive and quick. The art and graphics, although dated, do not take away from what the game is, I actually enjoyed them myself. If youre into economic simulations and trading games, youll find yourself putting many hours into this one! That being said, if youre not prepared for micromanagement on some level then this game will not appeal to you.
It looks like lots of people who played the original love this game, but I never played it before. It is hard to get over the 1987 graphics (it is a direct port), and it definitely isnt a game you can pick up a couple of minutes at a time.
This game definitely has potential. Its deep and gameplay is generally fun. While I can appreiate the rustic look an feel of an old classic, what is desperately needed is a re-issue of this game with modern graphics and sounds. Just imagine how much more fun the ship simulator woul be if the graphics were up to par. Developer - please, work on a new version. I would definitely purchase.
Dont waste your money, worst app ever.
Edit: The new update worked perfectly, and loaded my saved game without a hitch. I am giving this five stars because I enjoy realistic simulations, and this is, in my opinion, the premier example of a detailed business simulation game on this platform. You are attempting to survive the realities of the business, with all its expected and random aspects. For a better review, look at AlbieOnes... This game is a deep and engrossing simulation of the business of maritime shipping. If you are a fan of trading-style games, this could be for you. The graphics are there just to guide you through the game, but are not the point. I personally enjoy these types of games, and find figuring strategies interesting. If you are expecting flashy graphics as the main point of a game. Then this game may not be for you. If you, on the other hand, are into retro graphics and involved gameplay, this game may be what you are looking for.
This plays just like the classice Ports of Call that I played years (many) on my old Amiga computer. This version is great since I can finally play for long "game-time" periods anywhere I am and not be locked to a computer. Some improvements are really neeeded however: - it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to save a raft on the iPod. This was always difficult on the computer, but extremely hard on iPod. Ive done it once in I cant count the number of tries. PLEASE do something about this!!!! - while the game is great, I would really like some new ports, cargos, and something other than "tugs on strike". After 26 "game years", a little more variety would be nice. - it is too hard to stop the clock to save a game or check the office. Please add an override so you can do these easier. Please consider spicing this version up or releasing a newer one. Im still playing, but honestly, after several months, Im beginning to get bored.
Ive been mossing this game for a long time thank you so much for bringing it to my iphone. I absolutely love thos game and its just as great on my as i remember. Buy this
If you are a fan of the original or like deep trading simulation this is the game for You. Dont buy it, if you like fancy graphics and arcade style trading games.
Nice trading sim game, despite the graphics. Takes some time to get into the game though and I wish instructions were clearer at the start. Overall its good if you like strategy/sim games.
